Five tips to study math and not die trying

Yes, it is possible to get along with numbers and get good grades on exams. These are some recommendations to achieve it.

One of the areas in which Colombians have historically presented the greatest learning difficulties is in mathematics. This subject has been considered one of the “coconuts” of young people in college and university, especially when it comes to taking a quiz, exam or any type of test that measures knowledge throughout academic life.

Something worrisome, since mathematics is vital for any student, since it is applied in any environment of life and in any profession. Precisely for this reason it is proven that to facilitate their learning, particular methodologies are required that allow students not only to understand the concepts, but to apply them when solving the exercises in their exams.

“Mathematics and ‘hard’ sciences or what the United States and other European countries bring together STEM (for the acronym in English of science, technology, engineering and mathematics) are disciplines that require greater personalization, discipline, concentration and creativity when learning and practicing them ”, highlights the representative of Tutorya.com, a platform with online tutors that seeks to make mathematics a close and pleasant activity.

Among the main obstacles for young people to ‘enjoy’ mathematics are lack of concentration, little dedication, lack of a clear study methodology, and lack of clear strategies that allow for proper study.

These are five tips that this specialized portal identified so that Colombian students can get the most out of the numbers and improve their results:

1. Less theory and more exercises. The study of this subject should focus on performing many exercises, since it is a practical science that requires many repetitions for its correct understanding.

2. Study with the best. A tutor can offer different exercises than the ones you see in class, improve on key learning points, manage time, and create better study strategies.

3. Practice time management. The mathematics tests have the peculiarity that they require an almost “extraordinary” handling of time. Therefore, in the practices and exercises carried out, activities should be simulated that allow knowing the real time in which situations are faced. Scheduling activities that reveal how to address the questions can also make time management easier.

4. Make a study schedule. At least 15 days in advance you should start reviewing the notes and exercises. On the internet you can find additional activities with problems that will allow you to improve on tests and math practice. It is recommended to study at least four hours for evaluations and 12 hours of review for final exams or tests of greater complexity.

5. Diagnose weak points. Before starting to study it is important for the student to define the subjects in which they have the most difficulty. This way you can focus on reviewing the more difficult topics first.
